A Maryland man has admitted to his role in a firearms trafficking conspiracy, officials announced yesterday.
Alexander Michael Ryan Myers, 23, of Hagerstown, Maryland, pleaded guilty to one count of ‘Conspiracy’ in a West Virginia court. Myers admitted to working with others to purchase, possess, and transfer firearms to persons who couldn’t legally purchase or possess firearms.
The crimes took place from March and April 2021 in Berkeley County and elsewhere. Myers faces up to five years of incarceration and a fine of up to $250,000.
Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed will be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Lara Omps-Botteicher is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigated.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert W. Trumble presided over the hearing.
The case against Myers is part of a broader effort to combat firearms trafficking in the region. Officials say that the conspiracy involved the illegal purchase and transfer of firearms to individuals who are prohibited from owning them.
Myers’ guilty plea marks a significant development in the case, and officials say that it will help to hold accountable those who engage in such activities.
