ALEXANDRIA, Va. – The grimy streets of Alexandria were witness to a harrowing tale of repeat sexual abuse as Antonio Rudy Gonzalez, 41, was convicted yesterday for distributing and possessing child sexual abuse material (CSAM) while under supervised release.
In a scathing rebuke of his law-breaking ways, U.S. Attorney Erik S. Siebert for the Eastern District of Virginia slammed Gonzalez’s actions. “Following his previous conviction for CSAM, Gonzalez knew what he was doing was illegal and knew the consequences,” Siebert said. “We will tirelessly prosecute anyone engaging in these detestable crimes.”
Acting Assistant Attorney General Matthew R. Galeotti echoed Siebert’s sentiments, emphasizing the defendant’s continued exploitation of children online. “This defendant has been held accountable for his continued exploitation of children and now faces a fifteen-year mandatory minimum sentence,” Galeotti stated.
The court documents and evidence painted a chilling portrait of Gonzalez’s crimes. In April 2024, law enforcement began investigating Gonzalez for distributing CSAM on Kik, a mobile-based messaging platform. The defendant was previously convicted in the Eastern District of Virginia of distribution of child pornography in 2013.
Scheduled for sentencing on Jan. 27, 2026, Gonzalez faces up to 40 years in prison. Assistant U.S. Attorney Vanessa Strobbe and Trial Attorney Nadia Prinz are prosecuting this case with relentless determination.
Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative by the Department of Justice, led this fight against child sexual exploitation. For more information about Project Safe Childhood, visit www.justice.gov/psc.
