A disturbing case of sex abuse has come to a close in South Dakota. Edgar James Brown Bear, a 39-year-old man from Allen, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl at Allen.

According to court documents, Brown Bear was charged on May 19, 2015, and pleaded guilty on August 14, 2015. The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), with Assistant U.S. Attorney Ben Patterson prosecuting the case.

The conviction stems from Brown Bear’s heinous crime, which left a young victim scarred for life. The court’s decision was handed down by Chief Judge Jeffrey L. Viken, U.S. District Court, on March 4, 2016.

Brown Bear’s sentence includes 10 years of supervised release and a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. He will also be required to register as a sex offender, a harsh reminder of his actions.
