Tax Cheat Brought to Justice
A Cambria County man has been sentenced to probation and fined for his role in a tax conspiracy, according to United States Attorney David J. Hickton.
Alvin Miller, 60, of Vintondale, Pa., was sentenced to probation and ordered to pay a fine of $2,500, following his conviction of conspiracy to defraud the United States, Hickton announced today.
United States District Judge Kim R. Gibson imposed the sentence on Miller, who was found guilty of conspiring with others to conceal money from the Internal Revenue Service between June 9, 2007, and April 15, 2008.
Prosecutors alleged that Miller assisted a co-conspirator in hiding income from the IRS, allowing the individual to avoid paying income tax.
Assistant United States Attorney Stephanie L. Haines prosecuted the case on behalf of the government, with the assistance of the Laurel Highlands Resident Agency of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation, and the Ebensburg Borough Police Department.
Miller’s sentence brings an end to a lengthy investigation, with Hickton commending the agencies involved for their work in securing a successful prosecution.
Miller’s conviction serves as a reminder of the consequences of tax evasion and the importance of complying with federal tax laws.
