Lloyd Smith, Cocaine and Fentanyl Distribution, New York 2024

BUFFALO, N.Y. – A grim tale of drug dealing has unfolded in Amherst as Lloyd Smith, 25, pleaded guilty to distributing cocaine and fentanyl that led to serious bodily injury.

The U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo announced the charges against Smith, who faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine of $1,000,000 for his actions.

Smith’s alleged dealings came to light when he communicated with K.W. through Snapchat and text messages on May 27 and 28, 2023. The meetings culminated in Smith selling drugs to K.W. and J.D. Both individuals were found unconscious and unresponsive in a vehicle after using the narcotics, prompting a 911 call from a Good Samaritan.

Amherst Police arrived at the scene to find K.W. and J.D., both battling for their lives. The drugs sold by Smith were recovered, and tests confirmed them as cocaine and fentanyl. The plea is the outcome of an intensive investigation led by the Amherst Police Department under Chief Scott Chamberlin and the DEA New York Field Division directed by Frank Tarentino.

Smith’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for November 3, 2025, before U.S. District Judge Lawrence J. Vilardo.

This case serves as a stark reminder of the deadly consequences of drug trafficking and the relentless efforts of law enforcement to combat such crimes.
