A South Bend man has been sentenced to 121 months in prison for his role in a high-profile Hobbs Act robbery. Andre Pittman, 35, was found guilty of the crime, which took place on June 2021 at a liquor store in South Bend, Indiana.
Pittman, who was out of federal prison for only 1 ½ months before embarking on his recent robbery spree, was caught and admitted to committing multiple robberies, including the armed robbery of the liquor store. According to documents in the case, Pittman brandished a handgun at the store clerk and made off with cash from the register.
Pittman has a lengthy criminal history, which includes a prior federal conviction for the armed robberies of other retail stores. His sentence includes 121 months in prison followed by 2 years of supervised release.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation with the assistance of the South Bend Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Joel Gabrielse prosecuted the case.
U.S. Attorney Clifford D. Johnson announced the sentencing, stating that it is part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) program, which aims to reduce violent crime and gun violence by bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve.
The PSN program was launched on May 26, 2021, with a violent crime reduction strategy that focuses on fostering trust and legitimacy in communities, supporting community-based organizations, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring results.
Pittman will be serving his sentence in federal prison, bringing an end to his recent robbery spree. The investigation and prosecution of this case highlight the importance of collaboration between law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve in reducing violent crime and making neighborhoods safer.
In this case, the defendant’s prior convictions and lengthy criminal history played a significant role in determining the severity of the sentence. The sentence serves as a reminder that those who engage in violent crime will be held accountable for their actions.
