Anthony Lamont Hill, Armed Robbery, North Carolina 2013

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – In a brazen act of violence, Anthony Lamont Hill, 31, of Fletcher, N.C., robbed a Dollar General store at gunpoint in August 2013, leaving two employees tied up and traumatized.

The heist, which occurred right before closing time, saw Hill and his accomplice enter the store and demand the employees remove their clothing. The duo then proceeded to tie them up, attempting to destroy the store’s security system in the process.

According to court records, Hill and his accomplice made off with approximately $2,500 in cash from the store’s register. The crime was a stark reminder of the dangers faced by store workers and the importance of community vigilance.

Hill pleaded guilty in December 2014 to one count of Hobbs Act robbery and one count of possessing and brandishing a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence. His sentence, handed down by Senior U.S. District Judge Graham Mullen, was 121 months in prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release.

In addition to his prison time, Hill was also ordered to pay $4,750 in restitution to the victims of his crime.

Acting U.S. Attorney Jill Westmoreland Rose praised the efforts of the ATF and the Woodfin Police Department in bringing Hill to justice, saying that their work had brought closure to the victims and their families.

Hill remains in federal custody and will be transferred to the custody of the Federal Bureau of Prisons upon designation of a federal facility.

The investigation was handled by the ATF and the Woodfin Police Department, with Assistant U.S. Attorney John D. Pritchard of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Asheville prosecuting the case.

The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of community safety and the need for continued vigilance in the face of crime.

Hill’s crimes were a serious breach of trust, and his sentence is a fitting punishment for his actions.
