Anthony Monreal-Fabela, Conspiracy to Distribute Cocaine, Houma LA, 2022
A 21-year-old Houma man has been charged with conspiracy to distribute cocaine in a federal indictment unsealed last week.
According to court documents, Anthony Monreal-Fabela, along with his co-defendant Diogo Hernandez, 18, of Bourg, conspired to distribute and possess with intent to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine from June 14 to July 27, 2022.
The indictment, which was sealed on August 4, 2022, alleges that the pair violated Title 21, United States Code, Sections 841(a)(1), 841(b)(1)(A), and 846.
U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans announced the indictment, emphasizing that the charges are merely allegations and that the defendants’ guilt must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
If convicted, Monreal-Fabela and Hernandez face a mandatory minimum sentence of ten years, up to life imprisonment, a fine of up to $10,000,000, at least five years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment, and a $100 mandatory special assessment fee.
The case was investigated by the United States Homeland Security Investigations, Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, and United States Customs and Border Protection. The prosecution is being handled by Assistant United States Attorney J. Benjamin Myers.
Monreal-Fabela and Hernandez are currently in custody, awaiting trial. The indictment serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to combat cocaine trafficking in the region.
