Defendant Sentenced to Prison for Fentanyl Trafficking
A 33-year-old Charlotte man has been sentenced to prison for his role in a fentanyl trafficking operation in the Charlotte area. Antonio Lamar Stukes was ordered to serve 61 months in prison, followed by five years of supervised release, after pleading guilty to distribution of fentanyl and aiding and abetting.
According to court documents, law enforcement initiated an investigation into Stukes in October 2022 after learning that he was trafficking fentanyl in and around Charlotte. Over the course of the investigation, law enforcement arranged several controlled buys of fentanyl from Stukes, which led to the identification of his supplier and several additional co-conspirators.
Stukes has a lengthy criminal history, including a 2014 federal conviction in the Western District of North Carolina for possession of a firearm by a felon. His latest conviction stems from a guilty plea entered on January 25, 2024.
U.S. Attorney Dena J. King praised the work of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) for their investigation into the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Alfredo De La Rose prosecuted the case on behalf of the government.
The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities across the country. PSN is a collaborative effort between law enforcement and community organizations to make neighborhoods safer for everyone.
Stukes’ sentencing serves as a reminder of the serious consequences of engaging in fentanyl trafficking and other illicit activities. The U.S. Attorney’s Office will continue to work tirelessly to bring those responsible for such crimes to justice.
