Local Man Arrested, Pleads Guilty to Meth Conspiracy
A 55-year-old Corpus Christi resident has pleaded guilty to conspiring to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine, announced U.S. Attorney Jennifer B. Lowery.
Corpus Christi, Texas, was the hub of Antonio Montes’ illicit activities, which began in March 2021 and spanned until October 2021. Montes admitted to being involved in a conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, agreeing to receive packages containing the substance from Phoenix, Arizona, and sell them in the Corpus Christi area.
According to court documents, Montes was paid approximately $200 per box he accepted, containing the illicit substance. The investigation into Montes’ activities began in September 2021, following the discovery of packages containing methamphetamine being shipped to his residence from Phoenix, Arizona.
On October 21, 2021, authorities executed a search warrant at a co-conspirator’s residence, leading to the discovery of a box containing methamphetamine residue. The address written on the box was linked to Montes’ residence, which had received a package containing methamphetamine on October 5, 2021.
Law enforcement later discovered that UPS delivered three packages to Montes, each containing five pounds of methamphetamine and hydroponic marijuana. The delivery service had left the packages on the porch, highlighting the brazen nature of Montes’ activities.
U.S. District Judge David S. Morales will impose sentencing on December 21, 2021. At that time, Montes faces up to life in prison and a possible $10 million maximum fine. Montes was permitted to remain on bond pending the hearing.
Homeland Security Investigations conducted the investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorney J. Parker Gochenour prosecuting the case.
In a statement, officials emphasized the importance of disrupting and dismantling organizations involved in the distribution of illicit substances. The guilty plea serves as a warning to those involved in similar activities, highlighting the severe consequences of their actions.
