A federal prison sentence of more than four years was handed down to an Onawa, Iowa man, Antonio Palmer, age 44, on March 14, after a guilty plea was entered on September 20, 2022, to one count of felon in possession of a firearm.
Palmer was stopped by Sioux City Police for traffic infractions on an unspecified date, during which the officer observed a handgun in the driver’s side door of Palmer’s vehicle.
When the officer approached Palmer’s vehicle, a strong odor of marijuana was detected, and Palmer admitted to smoking marijuana in the vehicle and that he had just purchased the firearm via a private sale.
Palmer also had a 19-round extended magazine for the firearm. The case was investigated by the Sioux City Police and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Forde Fairchild.
The 57-month prison term was handed down by United States District Court Chief Judge Leonard T. Strand in Sioux City, Iowa. After the prison term, Palmer is required to serve a three-year term of supervised release.
