Jake Campbell, Prohibited Firearm Possession, Iowa 2023

A brazen display of disregard for the law has landed Council Bluffs resident Jake Campbell, 38, behind bars for 48 months. On February 27, 2022, Campbell was driving a vehicle reported stolen when police apprehended him. A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered a loaded Smith and Wesson firearm, which was later revealed to be stolen, hidden under the driver’s seat.

The arrest came as a result of Campbell’s reckless behavior, which put the community at risk. With a prior felony conviction and a history of methamphetamine use, Campbell was already prohibited from possessing a firearm. His actions demonstrate a blatant disregard for the law and the safety of those around him.

Campbell’s sentence includes a three-year term of supervised release following his prison stint. There is no parole in the federal system. This harsh sentence is a testament to the determination of law enforcement to keep our communities safe from those who would seek to do us harm.

The Council Bluffs Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives worked tirelessly to bring Campbell to justice. Their efforts are a shining example of the dedication and commitment to public safety that we expect from our law enforcement agencies.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence.
