MUSKOGEE, OKLAHOMA – Jaime Yair Arellano-Perez, a 37-year-old Mexican national unlawfully present in Sequoyah County, Oklahoma, has entered a guilty plea to a one-count Felony Information of Unlawful Reentry of Removed Alien. The crime carries a maximum sentence of ten years imprisonment and a fine not exceeding $250,000.
Arellano-Perez’s conviction stems from an investigation by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement Division and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. He was found in the United States without obtaining the express consent of the Secretary of Homeland Security to reapply for admission after being previously removed on June 25, 2012, October 16, 2014, and August 26, 2015.
This case is a part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration, eliminating cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protecting communities from violent crime. The operation brings together resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).
The Honorable D. Edward Snow, U.S. Magistrate Judge for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, accepted Arellano-Perez’s plea and ordered the completion of a presentence investigation report. A U.S. District Court Judge will determine his sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
Arellano-Perez remains in custody of the United States Marshals Service pending sentencing, represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Dak T. Cohen for the United States.
