Fabian Arias-Ramirez, Illegal Reentry, Iowa 2025

GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE: Fabian Arias-Ramirez, a 39-year-old Mexican national residing in Hampton, Iowa, has been sentenced to one year and one day in federal prison for illegal reentry into the United States. The sentence was handed down by United States District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams following Arias-Ramirez’s guilty plea on June 12, 2025.

Arias-Ramirez had previously been removed from the U.S. in 2013 but absconded. He was not actually removed until 2019, when he was caught attempting to enter the country on multiple occasions after being ordered removed. His illegal reentry was not his first offense; Arias-Ramirez has a criminal history that includes two misdemeanor offenses of illegal entry, Operating While Intoxicated convictions in Iowa state court in 2013 and 2024, and a conviction for Criminal Mischief.

The sentence comes after immigration officials encountered Arias-Ramirez in Iowa Falls, Iowa, on April 22, 2025, following his second OWI conviction. This conviction marked Arias-Ramirez’s third federal conviction related to illegal immigration.

Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that combats illegal immigration and protects communities from violent crime, was instrumental in the case. Assistant United States Attorney Anthony Morfitt prosecuted the case, while the Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Enforcement and Removal Operations conducted the investigation.

Arias-Ramirez will also serve a one-year term of supervised release following his prison sentence, with no parole available in the federal system.
