Arkansas Man Sentenced to 24 Months in Prison
HAMMOND, IN – In a shocking turn of events, Eddie Tramel McCloud-Hughes, a 31-year-old from Conway, Arkansas, was sentenced to 24 months in prison after pleading guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm, announced United States Attorney Clifford D. Johnson.
According to documents in the case, McCloud-Hughes sold a 9-millimeter firearm to law enforcement in August 2017. At the time of the sale, McCloud-Hughes had a prior felony conviction for Robbery in Lake County Superior Court, making him ineligible to possess a firearm or ammunition.
The investigation was led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Indiana HIDTA Task Force. Assistant United States Attorney Nicholas Padilla prosecuted the case.
The case was prosecuted as part of the joint federal, state, and local Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) Program, the centerpiece of the violent crime reduction efforts. PSN is an evidence-based program proven to be effective at reducing violent crime.
Through PSN, a broad spectrum of stakeholders work together to identify the most pressing violent crime problems in the community and develop comprehensive solutions to address them. As part of this strategy, PSN focuses enforcement efforts on the most violent offenders and partners with locally based prevention and reentry programs for lasting reductions in crime.
McCloud-Hughes’ sentence also includes 2 years of supervised release following his prison term. His actions serve as a stark reminder of the consequences of violating federal firearms laws.
The sentence was handed down by United States District Court Judge Philip P. Simon. The case serves as a prime example of the efforts to reduce violent crime in the community through the Project Safe Neighborhoods Program.
