John Doe, Methamphetamine Trafficking, California 2022

⏱ 2 min read

A 46-year-old Sopchoppy man was hauled off to federal prison for 7.5 years after getting caught with half a pound of crystal meth in his truck. Howard Neil Martin’s luck ran out when Wakulla County deputies responded to a burglary report and spotted him in a heated dispute with a homeowner’s watchman.

When deputies searched Martin’s truck, they found the meth and a firearm in plain view. A quick background check revealed Martin was a convicted felon, which sealed his fate. The bust was the result of a joint investigation between local and federal agencies.

U.S. Attorney John P. Heekin praised the work of his team and their law enforcement partners, saying the community can rest easy knowing Martin will be off the streets for several years.

The sentencing comes as part of the Department of Justice’s Operation Take Back America initiative, which aims to combat gun and drug crimes.
