Brandon Ivan Padilla, Armed Robbery, California 2024

⏱ 2 min read

Brandon Ivan Padilla, a San Marcos man, has pleaded guilty to a string of violent crimes in Escondido, including the armed robbery of a business and three carjackings, all committed in November 2024. On November 21, 2024, Padilla pointed a gun at a clerk at American Smoke Shop and demanded cash, making off with $320. He also carjacked a customer’s vehicle at gunpoint, holding the gun inches from the customer’s ear.

Padilla’s crime spree continued on November 25, 2024, when he attempted to steal another person’s car at gunpoint. Although the car failed to start, Padilla did not stop, and he carjacked another vehicle later that day, forcing the motorist out of the truck at gunpoint and stealing their wallet. In all three carjackings, Padilla admitted that he would have caused death or serious bodily harm to the victims if they had not given him their cars.

Padilla’s guilty plea is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing gun violence and other violent crime. He is scheduled to be sentenced on August 7, 2026, before U.S. District Judge Janis L. Sammartino.

The case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat violent crime in the San Diego area. The Department of Justice launched a violent crime reduction strategy in May 2021, which includes initiatives like Project Safe Neighborhoods to make communities safer.
