A Sacramento gang member, Jose Miguel Hernandez, 27, has been sentenced to 18 years and four months in prison for his role in a massive methamphetamine trafficking operation in the Sacramento region. Hernandez, who pleaded guilty to the crime, was part of a violent street gang that distributed lethal drugs throughout the area between January 26, 2023, and May 10, 2024. During this time, he sold 8 pounds of methamphetamine to a confidential source. The investigation, which was conducted by the DEA, Sacramento Police Department, Yuba County Sheriff’s Department, and California Highway Patrol, led to the arrest and conviction of several other gang members.
Hernandez’s sentencing is part of a larger crackdown on gang activity and methamphetamine trafficking in the Sacramento area. His co-defendants, Johnny Bobby Truong and Michael Hutchison, have already been sentenced to 19 years and 15 years in prison, respectively. Another co-defendant, Julio Sarabia, is scheduled to be sentenced on August 14, 2026, while the remaining defendants are set for a status conference on June 5, 2026.
The case against Hernandez and his co-defendants is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at dismantling cartels and transnational criminal organizations and protecting communities from violent crime. The operation has led to the arrest and conviction of numerous individuals involved in methamphetamine trafficking and other crimes.
The sentencing of Hernandez and his co-defendants sends a strong message to those involved in gang activity and methamphetamine trafficking that law enforcement is committed to holding them accountable. The investigation and prosecution of these crimes are a testament to the collaborative efforts of federal, state, and local authorities to combat violent crime and keep communities safe.
