Ricky Eddie Martinez Jr, a 35-year-old man from Española, New Mexico, went on a violent crime spree in August 2022, committing a series of armed robberies that left one person dead and several others injured. Over the course of several days, Martinez robbed multiple businesses in Española, including a Dandy Burger restaurant, a Shell gas station, and a Walgreens. He also robbed a Blake’s Lotaburger, where he shot and killed one employee and assaulted another.
Martinez’s crime spree began on August 9, 2022, and continued until his arrest on August 17, 2022. During this time, he used a revolver to intimidate and harm his victims, firing the weapon on multiple occasions. In addition to the robberies in Española, Martinez also committed crimes in Santa Fe and Taos.
The evidence against Martinez was overwhelming, and he eventually pleaded guilty to multiple counts of interference with commerce by robbery, as well as using and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence. As a result of his guilty plea, Martinez was sentenced to 40 years in prison, with no possibility of parole.
