OKLAHOMA CITY – Last week, DARVIS DEAN ARNETT, JR., 25, of Oklahoma City, was sentenced to serve 216 months in federal prison for being a convicted felon in illegal possession of firearms, announced United States Attorney Robert J. Troester.
Arnett’s sentence follows his guilty plea to three counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm. The charges stem from incidents involving gunfire at Hampton Inn on March 14, 2021, and multiple rounds fired in Edmond on May 3, 2021.
In the Hampton Inn incident, Arnett was involved in a verbal altercation where he retrieved a handgun, firing one shot into the air and two more towards an opponent. He was arrested soon after with two female accomplices, and the gun was found in their vehicle’s trunk.
On May 3, 2021, surveillance video captured Arnett firing over 30 rounds from a high-capacity drum magazine firearm, leading to his arrest and discovery of the weapon in his parent’s home.
Additionally, on November 11, 2021, Arnett attempted to break into his ex-girlfriend’s apartment after burglary, firing shots into the air when unable to gain entry. He was later arrested at his parents’ home in Edmond, with police discovering a hidden firearm.
Judge Stephen P. Friot sentenced Arnett on January 30, 2023, for a total of 216 months, followed by three years of supervised release, noting the nature and circumstances of the offense, including Arnett’s prior felony convictions.
