GRIM NEWS: A federal jury in Oklahoma has convicted a man of committing an appalling act of violence against an elderly woman.
Elga Eugene Harper, 40, from Tulsa, faces a lifetime behind bars after being found guilty of kidnapping, aggravated sexual abuse, assault with a dangerous weapon, and assault resulting in serious bodily injury. The crimes were committed within Indian Country.
“This is not just another crime story,” said U.S. Attorney Clint Johnson. “Elga Harper is a violent sexual predator who preyed on an elderly woman in her own home. The jury has delivered justice for this brave victim.”
Harper, known to the victim as a transient worker, had previously provided services at her home, where they discussed philosophy and counseling. After completing his work, Harper was paid in full by the woman.
On May 4, 2022, Harper returned uninvited to the woman’s home, asking for further employment. He entered her bathroom, attacked her, and proceeded to assault her violently for four hours. He also ransacked her home, taking her car keys in an attempt to flee.
The victim identified Harper as her attacker when officers arrived and was transported to the hospital with severe injuries. Harper was apprehended on May 10, 2022, following an investigation by the FBI and Tulsa Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Chantelle D. Dial and Melody N. Nelson are prosecuting this case.
