ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Asa Shaquille Holloway, 32, of Asheville, has been sentenced to a harsh federal sentence for drug dealing. The 41-month term in prison is followed by three years of supervised release following his conviction on charges of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and cocaine base.
U.S. Attorney Russ Ferguson announced the sentence, noting that Holloway’s new term will begin after he serves an existing 18-month supervised release violation for a federal firearms conviction.
The DEA and Asheville Police Department were instrumental in Holloway’s downfall. In December 2023, DEA agents discovered 21.37 grams of meth during a search at Holloway’s residence, along with the contraband items. An arrest warrant was issued, leading to Holloway’s recapture on January 30, 2024.
During the arrest, officers also found over 14 grams of crack and 3.34 grams of meth in Holloway’s possession. The defendant is now in federal custody, awaiting transfer to a Federal Bureau of Prisons facility.
In a statement, U.S. Attorney Ferguson expressed gratitude to the DEA and Asheville Police for their efforts in the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Christopher S. Hess handled the prosecution.
Holloway’s fate serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of drug trafficking. The grimy details of this case highlight the relentless pursuit of justice by federal law enforcement agencies.
