MUSKOGEE, OKLAHOMA – In a stark reminder of the dangers posed by illegal firearm possession, Rickey Everett Ballard, 29, has been sentenced to 51 months in prison for Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Ammunition.
The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma announced the sentence, which followed an investigation by the Muskogee Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Ballard pleaded guilty on December 17, 2024, to possessing a semiautomatic .300 Blackout caliber pistol and twenty-nine rounds of ammunition. This possession was unlawful after Ballard had been previously convicted of a crime with a prison sentence exceeding one year.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence. Launched in 2021, PSN strengthens community trust and support for law enforcement through focused enforcement and community engagement strategies.
The Honorable Ronald A. White presided over Ballard’s sentencing hearing. Ballard will remain under the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service until transported to a federal prison facility where he will serve his non-paroleable sentence.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jonathan E. Soverly and Lewis M. Reagan represented the United States in this case.
