Baltimore, Maryland – It’s a grim tale of the city as Antonio Johnson, age 49, has been indicted for ten counts of Hobbs Act robbery. The federal grand jury’s decision comes after an investigation that spanned several months.
Johnson is accused of robbing ten Baltimore restaurants at gunpoint between January 23, 2018, and February 12, 2018. Authorities have confirmed the violent nature of these robberies, which left many in fear and affected local business operations.
The acting United States Attorney for the District of Maryland, Stephen M. Schenning, along with the FBI’s Baltimore Field Office and Commissioner Darryl DeSousa of the Baltimore Police Department, announced the charges against Johnson today. The defendant is currently detained without bond, facing a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison if convicted.
Despite the serious charges, it should be noted that an indictment is not a finding of guilt; Johnson is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
Schenning also extended his gratitude to Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew DellaBetta for his role in the prosecution of this case. The investigation and legal action taken against Johnson are a testament to the agencies’ commitment to keeping Baltimore safe from such criminal activity.
