Federal prosecutors have struck a decisive blow against the streets of Baton Rouge with the conviction of Alexander Brock, 59, for orchestrating a massive drug trafficking conspiracy. The jury’s swift decision comes after a three-day trial that ended in less than an hour of deliberation.
Brock was found guilty of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute both cocaine and crack cocaine, according to Acting United States Attorney Ellison C. Travis. The evidence presented at the trial painted a picture of Brock as a key facilitator in the drug trade, brokering deals between four co-conspirators who have all been convicted.
Between July 31, 2018, and August 9, 2019, Brock allegedly acted as a middleman, arranging ounce-quantity deals within East Baton Rouge and Iberville Parishes. The jury determined that the conspiracy involved more than 500 grams of cocaine and over 28 grams of crack cocaine, which translates to a significant amount of illegal substances flooding local streets.
Brock’s conviction carries a mandatory minimum sentence of five years behind bars, with a potential maximum term of forty years. He also faces a fine upwards of $5 million and supervised release following his prison term. Assistant United States Attorneys Jessica Jarreau and Benjamin Anderson led the prosecution in this case, which was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office.
The investigation into Brock’s activities was part of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF), a multi-agency approach that targets the highest-level criminal organizations. OCDETF employs a prosecutor-led strategy, combining intelligence-driven tactics to dismantle these networks.
