BATON ROUGE, LA – Alexander Brock, 59, is facing a lengthy federal prison sentence after a jury found him guilty of acting as a key cog in a widespread drug trafficking operation. The conviction, handed down after a three-day trial in U.S. District Court before Judge John W. deGravelles, marks a significant victory for federal investigators battling the flow of narcotics through Louisiana.
According to evidence presented at trial, Brock wasn’t a street-level dealer. He was the broker. From July 31, 2018, to August 9, 2019, Brock repeatedly connected buyers and sellers, orchestrating ounce-quantity deals of cocaine and crack cocaine across East Baton Rouge and Iberville Parishes. He didn’t just move the product; the feds say he also cooked cocaine into crack, expanding his reach into a wider customer base. This wasn’t a small-time operation. Four of Brock’s co-conspirators have already been convicted, indicating a well-established network.
The jury didn’t just find Brock guilty of conspiracy – they determined the scope of the operation was substantial. The evidence showed the conspiracy involved distribution of more than 500 grams of cocaine and over 28 grams of crack cocaine, triggering a significantly harsher mandatory minimum sentence. Brock, acting as the linchpin, profited from the misery of addiction and the violence that inevitably follows drug trafficking.
Acting United States Attorney Ellison C. Travis announced the conviction, emphasizing the seriousness of the crime. Brock now faces a minimum of five years in prison, but the potential penalty extends to a maximum of forty years behind bars. He also risks a hefty fine of up to $5 million, and a period of supervised release after serving his time – if he ever gets out.
The investigation was a collaborative effort, spearheaded by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorneys Jessica Jarreau, Deputy Chief of the Organized and Violent Crimes Unit, and Benjamin Anderson skillfully prosecuted the case, building a solid case based on meticulous investigation and damning evidence. This wasn’t a lucky bust; it was a sustained, targeted takedown.
This case was conducted under the umbrella of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF), a multi-agency initiative designed to dismantle major criminal organizations. OCDETF’s prosecutor-led, intelligence-driven approach proves effective in disrupting the high-level players, like Brock, who profit from the illegal drug trade.
