BECKLEY, W.Va. – In a relentless crackdown on drug trafficking in the Southern District of West Virginia, William David Reid, 46, has been handed a 10-year federal prison sentence for distribution of heroin and possession of methamphetamine.

Court documents reveal that Reid sold a substantial quantity of heroin to an undercover informant in Beckley on August 3, 2020. His sinister activities didn’t stop there; Reid also admitted to possessing approximately 20 grams of methamphetamine on August 12, 2020, with intent to distribute it across Raleigh County. The 46-year-old had been a relentless dealer for over a year before his downfall.

United States Attorney William S. Thompson led the charge in announcing the sentence and expressed gratitude for the relentless investigative work of the Beckley/Raleigh County Drug and Violent Crime Unit, the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Department, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF).

The severity of the sentence was imposed by United States District Judge Frank W. Volk. Assistant United States Attorney Timothy D. Boggess handled the prosecution with a steadfast determination.
