Fruitvale’s Billie Earl Johnson, aged 51, has been hit with federal drug trafficking charges after being found guilty of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute and distribution of methamphetamine in the Eastern District of Texas.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) revealed that Johnson admitted his role in the distribution of over 50 grams of meth, and during his criminal activities, he was also caught with a firearm. The plea came before U.S. Magistrate Judge K. Nicole Mitchell.
Johnson’s collaboration with others to acquire and distribute the illegal substance in Texas and beyond ended in December 2010, according to court documents. He now faces a minimum of ten years in federal prison upon sentencing, which has yet to be scheduled. The investigation was led by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Mineola Police Department, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Bill Baldwin handling the prosecution.
The indictment against Johnson and two others came on November 7, 2012, marking the start of their federal charges for drug trafficking violations. The case is another blow to the methamphetamine trade in Texas, where such crimes have been on the rise.
