Billings Man Faces 15 Years for Gun Possession
BILLINGS – In a move that highlights the ongoing struggle with gun violence, Damian Andrew Roman, 26, of Billings has pleaded guilty to illegally possessing a firearm, a crime that carries a 15-year prison sentence.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Roman was accused of possessing a Glock, Model 48, 9mm caliber pistol loaded with an extended magazine containing 18 rounds of 9mm caliber ammunition. The firearm was found in a brown Louis Vuitton bag after Roman was involved in a car crash on December 18, 2024.
Prosecutors alleged that Roman’s possession of the firearm was a direct result of his felony convictions in 2021 for two offenses in the United States District Court for the District of Montana. These convictions automatically prohibit Roman from possessing firearms or ammunition.
The government’s case against Roman was built on evidence collected by the ATF and the Billings Police Department. A fingerprint analysis of the firearm revealed a partial print on the magazine that was positively identified as belonging to Roman.
Roman’s plea marks a significant victory for law enforcement in their ongoing efforts to reduce gun violence in Montana. The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at bringing together law enforcement and community organizations to make neighborhoods safer.
U.S. District Court Judge Susan P. Watters will ultimately determine Roman’s sentence, taking into account the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors. Roman is currently being held pending further proceedings.
As the nation grapples with the issue of gun violence, cases like Roman’s serve as a stark reminder of the consequences of illegal gun possession. The Grimy Times will continue to provide in-depth coverage of this and other high-profile cases.
