Bismarck Man Sentenced for Assault by Striking

A disturbing act of violence came to an end on January 8, 2013, as Harlan J. Fisher, a 44-year-old man from Bismarck, North Dakota, was sentenced for his role in a brutal assault on a victim.

According to court documents, Fisher was convicted of Simple Assault and Assault by Striking, Beating or Wounding after a federal grand jury indicted him on June 12, 2012. He pleaded guilty to a superseding information on the same day he was sentenced.

The assault, which occurred on June 2, 2012, left the victim with serious injuries after Fisher struck them in the mouth and on top of their head. The attack was investigated by the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services, who worked diligently to bring Fisher to justice.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Troy Morley prosecuted the case, ensuring that Fisher was held accountable for his actions. The sentence handed down by U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno was severe, with Fisher facing 12 months in custody and a $20 special assessment.
