Newport News, Va. – The gritty streets of James City County witnessed a heavy handed justice today as William Kasey, 43, was locked up for 10 years for being a felon in possession of firearms.
William Kasey’s arrest, which transpired in February 2017, followed the execution of a search warrant at his residence. The sweep turned grim when officers discovered multiple firearms, despite Kasey’s prior convictions for armed robbery and assault with a deadly weapon.
The investigation revealed that Kasey was a steadfast member of the Bloods street gang. His home served as a repository for gang-related documents and materials, further solidifying his role in organized crime.
This case is an offspring of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a Department of Justice initiative aimed at reducing violent crime. PSN leverages evidence-based programs to address the most pressing issues within communities, focusing on violent offenders like Kasey.
G. Zachary Terwilliger, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, and Martin Culbreth, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Norfolk Field Office, led the announcement following sentencing by U.S. District Judge Arenda Wright Allen. Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric M. Hurt played a pivotal role in prosecution.
