Meliek Bennett, Cocaine and Counterfeit Pill Conspiracy, Massachusetts 2023

BOSTON – A Lynn-based Bloods street gang member and his brother were arraigned today after admitting to a conspiracy that funneled cocaine, counterfeit pills, and other controlled substances across the North Shore.

Meliek Bennett, 29, and Maurice Bennett, 38, both of Lynn, pleaded guilty to one count each of conspiracy to distribute controlled substances. Sentencing is scheduled for November 3, 2025.

Maurice, a known Bloods member with prior convictions for firearms and violent crimes, was caught in numerous text exchanges with his brother detailing drug distribution schemes. They discussed splitting customers and supplies, settling debts, and even planning a trip to New Hampshire to sell drugs together.

In September 2024, Meliek outlined plans to use a silenced pistol against a drug supplier in a recorded conversation. A subsequent search at Meliek’s residence yielded fentanyl tablets, oxycodone, gabapentin, marijuana, a .22 caliber pistol with a threaded barrel and ammunition.

The charges of conspiracy to distribute controlled substances and possession of controlled substances with intent to distribute carry penalties of up to 20 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and fines reaching $1 million. Sentences are determined by federal district court judges according to U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and statutes.

United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Ted E. Docks, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Boston, announced the plea deal. The Lynn Police and Massachusetts Department of Corrections were instrumental in the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Philip A. Mallard and David Cutshall are prosecuting the case.
