Bank Robber Strikes Again
A man has been arrested for allegedly robbing two suburban Chicago banks in recent weeks.
According to a criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Chicago, Antonio E. Collins, 26, of North Riverside, Ill., handed tellers handwritten notes demanding money and stating that he would shoot people if they did not comply.
The first robbery occurred at a Chase Bank branch in Bolingbrook, Ill., on Dec. 21, 2021, where Collins made off with approximately $2,868 in cash. The second robbery took place at a BMO Harris Bank branch in Homewood, Ill., on Jan. 3, 2022, netting Collins approximately $21,836 in cash.
Collins was arrested on Jan. 6, 2022, and is charged with two counts of bank robbery, each punishable by up to 20 years in federal prison.
A detention hearing in federal court in Chicago is scheduled for Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. before U.S. Magistrate Judge Sunil R. Harjani.
The investigation was led by the FBI with assistance from the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, Illinois State Police, and the police departments of Bolingbrook, Homewood, North Riverside, Evergreen Park, and Orland Park.
The government is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Andréa Campbell.
