A Monroeville man has pleaded guilty to possessing and intending to distribute a large quantity of methamphetamine, federal authorities announced today.
Boris Goldshtein, 55, pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine in federal court in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The charge stems from a February 2020 investigation that began when Postal Inspectors intercepted a parcel mailed to Goldshtein’s residence containing approximately 439 grams of methamphetamine.
The next day, a federal search warrant was executed at Goldshtein’s residence, where investigators recovered an additional 335 grams of methamphetamine, along with firearms and bulk currency.
The U.S. Postal Inspection Service, Pittsburgh Bureau of Police, Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office, and Monroeville Police Department conducted the investigation leading to Goldshtein’s indictment.
Assistant United States Attorney David Lew is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government.
Judge Cathy Bissoon scheduled sentencing for May 26, 2022. The law provides for a maximum total sentence of 40 years imprisonment, a fine of not more than $5,000,000, or both.
Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offense and the prior criminal history of the defendant.
Goldshtein’s guilty plea is a significant blow to the opioid and methamphetamine trafficking networks that plague our communities.
The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and provide updates on the sentencing outcome.
