Bradley Tischer Sentenced to 18 Months in Federal Prison for Tax Evasion

An Atkins man, Bradley Tischer, 51, has been handed a harsh sentence for his role in evading taxes. The crime, which saw Tischer underpay his taxes by over $250,000, has resulted in a significant prison term.

Tischer, a businessman with ties to several bars and grills in the area, pleaded guilty to one count of tax evasion in March 2016. The guilty plea was part of a plea agreement, which saw Tischer admit to owning and operating three businesses, including Brogan’s, Miguel’s, and Bobby T’s, as well as a corporation known as JGT, Inc.

According to court documents, Tischer failed to report all of his income from these businesses between 2009 and 2013. Each tax return submitted by Tischer contained a written declaration that it was signed under the penalty of perjury, adding to the severity of the crime.

Bradley Tischer was sentenced in Cedar Rapids by United States District Court Chief Judge Linda R. Reade. The 18-month prison term is set to be followed by a 3-year term of supervised release. Tischer will also be required to pay a fine of $5,000 and make restitution of $2,961.88 to the United States for costs of prosecution.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Matthew J. Cole and investigated by the Internal Revenue Service-Criminal Investigation.

Tischer’s case serves as a stark reminder of the seriousness with which tax evasion is viewed by the law. Those who engage in such activities can expect severe consequences, including lengthy prison terms and significant fines.
