A New Castle man has been charged with a federal crime involving cocaine, according to the United States Attorney’s office in Pittsburgh.
Brandon Leroy McConnell, 34, was indicted on a single count of violating federal narcotics laws, which alleges that he knowingly attempted to possess with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine, a Schedule II controlled substance.
According to the indictment, the attempted possession occurred on or about May 14, 2021, when McConnell was the intended recipient of a United States Postal Service parcel containing the controlled substance.
The law provides for a maximum total sentence of five years to a maximum of 40 years in prison, a fine not to exceed $5,000,000, or both.
Assistant United States Attorney Nicole A. Stockey is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.
The investigation was conducted by the United States Postal Inspection Service and the Homeland Security Investigations.
An indictment is an accusation. McConnell is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
The case has been unsealed following McConnell’s arrest.
McConnell’s exact sentence or outcome is currently unknown.
