Defendant Sentenced for Unlawful Possession of a Stolen Firearm
A Hancock County man has been sentenced to 63 months in prison for unlawfully possessing a stolen firearm, announced United States Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld, II. Brandon S. Moore, 24, of New Cumberland, West Virginia, made headlines when he was caught with a stolen .40 caliber pistol in June 2015.
The investigation revealed that Moore stole the pistol from a residence in Brooke County, West Virginia. In June 2016, he pled guilty to one count of ‘Possession of a Stolen Firearm.’
This case highlights the connections between firearms traffickers and drug traffickers, threatening public safety and putting law enforcement officers at risk, said Stuart L. Lowrey, Special Agent in Charge of the Louisville Field Division of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. ‘We will continue to work aggressively with the West Virginia State Police and local police agencies to identify illicit traffickers, disarm violent offenders and interdict stolen and unlawfully possessed firearms.’
Assistant U.S. Attorney Randolph J. Bernard prosecuted the case on behalf of the government. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the West Virginia State Police, the Brooke County Sheriff’s Office, and the Weirton Police Department investigated.
U.S. District Judge John Preston Bailey presided over the case, handing down a 63-month sentence to Moore. The sentence is a harsh reminder of the consequences of committing crimes involving firearms.
The investigation and subsequent sentencing of Brandon S. Moore serve as a testament to the dedication of law enforcement agencies in West Virginia to keeping their communities safe from illicit firearms and traffickers.
