A Marshall, Minnesota man, Brody Lee Chase Hancock, was sentenced to 10 months in federal prison for failing to register as a sex offender, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of South Dakota.
Hancock, 29 years old, was convicted of Failure to Register as a Sex Offender and was sentenced on March 29, 2022, by U.S. District Judge Charles B. Kornmann.
The conviction stems from Hancock’s failure to register as a sex offender between December 1, 2020, and July 7, 2021. Hancock had previously been convicted of a sex offense in the state of Minnesota, which requires him to register for 15 years upon his release from prison.
Hancock was indicted by a federal grand jury on July 7, 2021, and pled guilty on January 4, 2022.
This case was investigated by the U.S. Marshals Service, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey C. Clapper prosecuting the case.
Hancock was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service after the sentencing.
In addition to the 10-month prison sentence, Hancock was also ordered to pay a special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund in the amount of $100 and will serve five years of supervised release upon his release from prison.
