Alexander Carnahan, Production of Child Pornography, New York 2020

Alexander Carnahan, 27, of Randolph, NY, has been arrested and charged with production of child pornography, a crime carrying a mandatory minimum of 15 years in federal prison and a maximum of 30 years behind bars, along with a $250,000 fine.

The charges stem from a June 9, 2020 incident when Jamestown Police responded to a residence following allegations of sexual abuse involving an 11-year-old victim. The child’s mother said another one of her children handed over Carnahan’s cell phone, reporting that it contained nude images of the minor. After reviewing the device, the mother said she found what appeared to be graphic images of the child and immediately expelled Carnahan from the home.

On June 16, local officers executed a state search warrant on the phone but found no child pornography. The investigation escalated when, the following day, federal agents obtained a search warrant for Carnahan’s Google account. There, investigators recovered multiple images and videos matching the descriptions provided by the victim’s mother—content that had been transferred from the phone to the cloud.

Forensic analysis revealed Carnahan not only uploaded material he produced but also possessed additional child pornography he did not create. The digital trail tied him directly to the abuse, with metadata and timestamps placing him as the uploader during the relevant period.

On August 13, 2020, federal and local authorities executed a search warrant at Carnahan’s residence in Randolph. A second warrant authorized forensic photographs of his hands—critical evidence used to compare against partial images in the illicit videos. Investigators sought to confirm whether the hands visible in the footage matched Carnahan’s physical characteristics.

The criminal complaint was the result of a joint probe by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, under Special Agent-in-Charge Stephen Belongia, and the Jamestown Police Department, led by Acting Chief Timothy Jackson. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Charles M. Kruly and Elizabeth R. Moellering are prosecuting the case. Carnahan remains presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
