Bronx Crack King Palermo Gets 15 Years+
BRONX, NY – Hector Palermo, 37, is headed for a long stretch behind bars after receiving a brutal 188-month federal prison sentence for leading a violent drug trafficking operation in the Hunts Point section of the Bronx. The sentence was handed down today by U.S. District Judge Gregory H. Woods, marking a significant win for federal prosecutors and a blow to Palermo’s criminal enterprise.
Palermo pled guilty before U.S. Magistrate Judge Henry B. Pitman back in November 2018, admitting to orchestrating the distribution of large amounts of crack cocaine between approximately 2014 and 2017. The operation wasn’t just about moving weight; it was a full-scale control of the Hunts Point drug trade, according to court documents. Palermo didn’t just sell dope – he managed the entire operation, from prepping the narcotics to directing the street-level dealers.
“Today’s sentence sends a message that destructive drug trafficking in our communities will not be tolerated,” declared Manhattan U.S. Attorney Geoffrey S. Berman. “We continue our daily work with our law enforcement partners to keep the streets free of dangerous narcotics.” But words are cheap. It’s the 15 years and seven months that’ll make a difference.
The indictment detailed a ruthless organization, one built on violence and fueled by addiction. Palermo wasn’t a bystander; he was the architect, the man pulling the strings. He oversaw every aspect of the business, ensuring a steady flow of crack cocaine onto the streets of the Bronx, enriching himself while poisoning a community. Beyond the prison time, Palermo will also serve five years of supervised release after he finally gets out.
Federal investigators from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, Homeland Security Investigations, and the New York City Police Department worked tirelessly on this case, bringing Palermo’s reign to an end. Berman also extended thanks to the Bronx County District Attorney’s Office for their assistance. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Sarah Krissoff of the Office’s Violent and Organized Crime Unit – a unit that clearly isn’t afraid to take on the toughest cases.
Palermo’s sentencing serves as a stark reminder that even the most entrenched criminal organizations can be dismantled. While one kingpin is off the streets, the fight against drug trafficking in the Bronx – and across the nation – continues. Grimy Times will be there to report on every bust, every conviction, and every ounce of justice served.
