Today, in a Brooklyn federal court, Dajahn McBean, better known as ‘Jeezy Mula’, the leader of the Real Ryte gang, was sentenced to 150 months in prison for his role in a violent racketeering conspiracy. His sentences were announced alongside those of Mark Waiters, also known as ‘Telly’, and Semaj Smith, alias ‘Bam Bam’ and ‘Real Ryte Sport’, who received 149 and 132 months respectively.
McBean’s co-defendants pleaded guilty in September and October 2023 to charges stemming from a brutal gang war between Real Ryte and the Breadgang crew of the Bloods. The Real Ryte gang, which operated in Brooklyn, New York, has been implicated in acts of murder, assault, bank fraud, wire fraud, and other serious crimes.
United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, Breon Peace, emphasized the severity of the sentences: ‘We will not tolerate our communities being turned into scenes out of video games with gang warfare, reckless shootings and car chases. Today’s sentence shows that individuals like these defendants will be punished with significant time in prison.’
The sentences were a result of an investigation led by the New York City Police Department and the Department of Homeland Security, Homeland Security Investigations New York. Real Ryte’s gang war with the Breadgang crew resulted in numerous shootings, including the tragic murder of Sean Peart.
Assistant United States Attorneys Joy Lurinsky and Rebecca Schuman are handling the prosecution, supported by Paralegal Specialists Cleon Thomas and Abiodun Ojo.
The defendants’ sentences serve as a stark reminder of the consequences faced by those who engage in gang-related violence and organized crime.
