Tampa, Florida – In a relentless battle against drug crime, U.S. District Judge Virginia M. Hernandez Covington today sentenced Darrence White, 29, of Brooksville, to a staggering 20 years in federal prison for possession with the intent to distribute methamphetamine and fentanyl.
White’s fall from grace began on March 11, 2023, when a Pasco Sheriff’s Office deputy halted his vehicle during a traffic stop. The air was thick with the scent of illegal substances, which led officers to uncover a cache of meth, fentanyl, and a blue latex glove in the glove compartment.
Further investigation turned up more drugs on White’s person, as well as another blue latex glove. It seemed the gloves did not match the hands behind the wheel, but they were a chilling reminder of the methods used to conceal his dangerous cargo.
This case is a testament to Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which has united law enforcement and communities in the fight against violent crime and gun violence. The Department’s strategy, launched on May 26, 2021, aims to foster trust, support prevention efforts, enforce strategically, and measure results.
The investigation was a joint effort between the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Pasco Sheriff’s Office, while Assistant United States Attorney Maria Guzman handled the prosecution.
White’s sentence serves as a stark reminder that no matter how deep one sinks into the criminal underworld, justice will ultimately prevail.
