Buffalo Attorney Falsifies Tax Returns
Lisa M. Yaeger, a 49-year-old Buffalo attorney, has pleaded guilty to submitting false tax returns to the Internal Revenue Service. The attorney, who was employed in various public positions and maintained a private practice, failed to report substantial income from her private practice in the years 2005, 2006 and 2007.
Yaeger’s actions resulted in a tax loss of over $22,000. If convicted, she faces up to one year in prison and a fine of $100,000.
The investigation, led by Special Agent-in-Charge Toni M. Weirauch of the Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigative Division, revealed that Yaeger had submitted false documents to the IRS, incurring the charges of submitting false documents to the Internal Revenue Service.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Gretchen L. Wylegala handled the case, stating that Yaeger’s actions were a breach of trust as an attorney and public official. The plea marks a significant blow to the integrity of the legal profession.
The sentencing is scheduled for February 10, 2014, at 12:30 p.m. before U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara. The outcome of the sentencing will be a crucial indicator of the severity of the punishment Yaeger will face for her crimes.
The case serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining transparency and honesty in all aspects of public life. As an attorney and public official, Yaeger’s actions were a betrayal of the public’s trust.
The Internal Revenue Service and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of New York have taken a significant step in upholding the law and maintaining the integrity of the legal system by bringing Yaeger to justice.
