Erie Predator Lucas Admits Trafficking Minors
ERIE, Pa. – Devonte Lamonte Lucas, 22, a former resident of Erie, Pennsylvania, has confessed to a horrific crime: the sex trafficking of two minor victims. The guilty plea, entered in federal court, brings a small measure of justice, but the details reveal a chilling pattern of exploitation.
Acting United States Attorney Soo C. Song announced today that Lucas pleaded guilty to two counts before United States District Judge David S. Cercone: sex trafficking of a child and conspiracy to commit sex trafficking. The crimes spanned from March 2015 to October 2015, during which Lucas, alongside a co-defendant, systematically recruited, enticed, harbored, and transported these vulnerable victims.
The pair didn’t operate in the shadows, but brazenly advertised the victims for commercial sex acts. Their scheme was ultimately dismantled thanks to the sharp work of the Millcreek Police Department. Undercover officers, responding to an Internet advertisement placed by Lucas’s co-defendant, arranged a meeting at a Millcreek motel. It was there they observed Lucas transporting a minor female – a direct line to the exploitation occurring behind closed doors.
This wasn’t a spontaneous act; it was a calculated operation. Lucas and his co-defendant knowingly subjected these children to unspeakable abuse for their own gain. The investigation, a collaborative effort between the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Millcreek Police Department, meticulously pieced together the evidence, ensuring Lucas faced the consequences of his actions.
Judge Cercone has scheduled sentencing for September 11, 2017. Lucas now faces the possibility of a life sentence, a $500,000 fine, or both. The final sentence will be determined based on the severity of the offenses and any prior criminal history. Assistant United States Attorney Christian A. Trabold is prosecuting the case, fighting for the maximum penalty.
