Mario Kelly, Gun and Drug Charges, New York 2024

Crime boss Mario Kelly, 38, of Buffalo, has been sentenced to serve 130 months in federal prison for a litany of gun and drug charges. The U.S. Attorney Trini E. Ross announced the severe sentence handed down by U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara.

Kelly’s conviction stemmed from a massive drug seizure at his Kenmore residence. In April 2022, law enforcement officials executed a search warrant, leading to the discovery of over 374 grams of fentanyl, seven grams of crack cocaine, drug paraphernalia, and three firearms.

According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Meghan E. Leydecker, Kelly’s criminal history is lengthy, with two felony convictions in Erie County Court and three federal crimes in the Western District of New York. His status as a felon prohibited him from possessing firearms, yet he was caught with three in his possession.

The investigation that led to Kelly’s downfall was a collaborative effort between the Buffalo Police Department, directed by Commissioner Joseph Gramaglia, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, under Special Agent-in-Charge Bryan Miller, New York Field Division.

“This sentence sends a strong message that we will not tolerate drug trafficking and the use of firearms in criminal activities,” stated Ross. “We are committed to keeping our communities safe from such threats.”

Kelly’s sentence is the culmination of an intense investigation that has dismantled a significant drug ring in Buffalo, highlighting the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat the drug crisis plaguing the region.
