Child Porn and Cyberstalking Charges Land Buffalo Man 10-20 Years in Prison
BUFFALO, N.Y. – In a disturbing case of child exploitation, Raymond Brooks, 25, of Buffalo, NY, pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography by an individual with a prior sex offense conviction and cyberstalking. Brooks faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison, a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison, and a $250,000 fine.
According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Franz T. Wright, Brooks was previously convicted in Erie County Court of Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Child in January 2019. On April 23, 2020, law enforcement conducted a search of Brooks’ cell phone, uncovering images and videos containing child pornography, some of which depicted prepubescent minors engaged in violent sexual conduct.
In January 2021, Brooks used Snapchat to contact a 15-year-old victim, coercing her into producing and sending sexually explicit images of herself. He repeatedly threatened the victim, ordering her to create more explicit content or face the consequences of his spreading the images and videos to her family, friends, and other Snapchat users.
The victim, fearing Brooks’ threats, complied with his demands, creating additional sexually explicit images and videos. This disturbing case highlights the dangers of online predators and the devastating consequences of their actions.
The guilty plea is the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Matthew Miraglia.
Sentencing is scheduled for October 3, 2024, before U.S. District Judge John L. Sinatra, Jr. Brooks’ crimes are a stark reminder that online predators will be brought to justice and held accountable for their heinous actions.
