Fortino Pilier, Postal Key Possession, New York 2024

BUFFALO, N.Y. – In a stunning revelation from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, 28-year-old Fortino Pilier of Buffalo has admitted to the illegal possession of postal keys, an offense that could land him behind bars for up to ten years and leave a $250,000 fine hanging over his head.

The grim tale began with a traffic stop on October 23, 2024. Erie County Sheriff’s deputies pulled over Pilier’s vehicle and the chase was on when Pilier made a daring escape. Deputies caught up and apprehended him, where they discovered two U.S. Postal arrow keys tucked away in his pocket. These keys are no joke; they can unlock the mail receptacles of the Postal Service, granting unauthorized access to the mail.

Pilier’s intentions were clear; he planned to misuse these keys for unlawful access to mail receptacles. Assistant U.S. Attorney Franz M. Wright has been handling the case with a stern hand, and today, before U.S. District Judge John L. Sinatra, Jr., Pilier entered his guilty plea.

This conviction is the fruit of an intensive investigation led by Inspector-in-Charge Ketty Larco-Ward of the United States Postal Inspection Service, Boston Division.

Sentencing has been set for November 14, 2025, where Pilier will face the music in front of Judge Sinatra. For now, the gritty streets of Buffalo are one step closer to peace, though the cost was steep.
