Buffet Boss Fakes Worker Roster
A former Niagara Falls restaurant owner has been sentenced to one year of probation for making false statements to immigration officials, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office in Buffalo.
Jing Lin, 35, a permanent resident of the United States since 2012, operated the Jing Buffet Restaurant on Military Road in Niagara Falls. During an inspection of the restaurant’s workforce, Lin made false statements about the number of people working for him and the citizenship status of his employees.
Lin, originally from China, was convicted of making a false statement. He was sentenced to one year of probation by U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara.
Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian J. Counihan handled the case, which was the result of an investigation by Immigrations and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge James C. Spero.
Lin’s sentencing marks the latest development in the ongoing crackdown on immigration-related crimes in Western New York.
The Jing Buffet Restaurant has since closed its doors, and Lin has relocated to Stanley, North Carolina, according to court records.
The case serves as a reminder that immigration officials will not tolerate false statements or attempts to evade the law.
