New Orleans – In a stunning blow to the city’s violent crime wave, Chief United States District Judge Nannette Jolivette Brown sentenced DWAYNE WINANS JR., a/k/a “Butter,” to 30 years of imprisonment. The sentence will be followed by five years of supervised release.
WINANS, age 25, was convicted on April 26, 2018, following a four-day jury trial. He was found guilty of two carjackings that occurred on August 12, 2016, in New Orleans. The jury also determined that WINANS used firearms during the commission of these crimes.
WINANS and his co-defendant, BRYSON TUESNO, age 24, were additionally found guilty of robbing the Regions Bank at 3836 Elysian Fields Avenue in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast Bank at 1900 Oak Harbor Boulevard in Slidell on August 15, 2016. Both men used one of the carjacked vehicles to commit these bank robberies.
WINANS was also ordered to pay $12,187 in restitution to Gulf Coast Bank. TUESNO is scheduled for sentencing on May 23 before Chief Judge Brown.
U.S. Attorney Peter G. Strasser commended the Federal Bureau of Investigation for their efforts in this case. Assistant United States Attorneys Michael E. McMahon, Jeffrey Sandman, and David Howard Sinkman prosecuted the defendant.
