Byrd Gang Members Charged with Violent Crimes
NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA – A sweeping indictment has charged 11 members and associates of the notorious Byrd Gang with a litany of violent crimes, including murder, attempted murder, and racketeering.
According to court documents, the defendants, led by Tim Jackson, aka ‘T-Maf,’ and Ernest Thomas, aka ‘E-Maf,’ ran a ruthless drug trafficking operation in and around New Orleans between 2014 and 2021. The organization, fueled by greed and a thirst for power, left a trail of bloodshed and devastation in its wake.
The indictment charges the defendants with conspiracy to commit racketeering, conspiracy to distribute controlled substances, and conspiracy to possess firearms. Additionally, several defendants are charged with murder, attempted murder, and assault with a dangerous weapon in aid of racketeering.
Some of the most serious charges include the murders of Wynston Jackson and Lawrence Williams, IV, allegedly carried out by defendants Terran Williams, aka ‘Funky,’ Tyrone Bovia, aka ‘Sixx,’ and Javonta Doleman, aka ‘Dutt.’ If convicted, they face mandatory life imprisonment or death.
The indictment also charges several defendants with causing death through the use of a firearm, a charge that carries a mandatory minimum sentence of ten years up to life imprisonment or death.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office in New Orleans has vowed to hold the Byrd Gang members accountable for their heinous crimes. ‘Today’s indictment is a major blow to the Byrd Gang and its leadership,’ said the U.S. Attorney. ‘We will continue to work tirelessly to dismantle this organization and bring justice to the victims and their families.’
The case is being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in New Orleans and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The defendants are scheduled to make their initial appearances in court later this week. A copy of the indictment can be found on the U.S. Attorney’s Office website.
